It was developed in 1938 by Rheinmetall-Borsig AG as a successor to the 3.7 cm Pak 36, and was in turn followed by the 7.5 cm Pak 40.

The Pak 38 was first used by the German forces during the Second World War in April 1941. When the Germans faced Soviet tanks in 1941 during Operation Barbarossa, the Pak 38 was one of the few early guns capable of penetrating the 45 mm (1.8 in) sloped armor of the T-34's hull at close range. The gun was also equipped with Panzergranate 40APCR shots with a hard tungsten core, in an attempt to penetrate the armor of the heavier KV-1 tank.

Although it was replaced by more powerful weapons, it remained a useful weapon and remained in service with the Wehrmacht until the end of the war.

This is our reproduction Pak 38 anti tank gun. Is is a faithful copy of an original and some original parts have been used in its construction. Is is fully functioning and fires a 5cm blank charge. We have several vehicles capable of towing the Pak 38 and we also have all the necessary accessories to accompany the gun. We have assembled this show reel to illustrate the function and sound of the Gun.

Manufactured from mild steel it is strong and robust. It has been constructed to give all the looks of the original gun. It is a faithful 1:1 scale copy and can stand up to close scrutiny. The gun platform is in a fixed forward position. The main gun barrel can be raised or lowered if necessary. This gun has been manufactured with our an opening breech and is not classified as a firearm in any way. However, we have fitted a straight through steel tube designed to take a pyrotechnic charge to simulate a round being fired.

The Split trail opens and closes and the gun is supplied with a steel towing ring which will fit all military type towing hitch.

This gun has been finished in the traditional RAL 7021 Panzer Grey Colour. However, we can supply in any of the regulation German Army paint schemes.
